SUMMARY:How Do We Build Consumer and Investor Trust in Innovation? A Certificate in Digital Data Ethics from Alberta Innovates
DESCRIPTION:Not everyone has confidence that innovation will only have a positive impact. Many end-users don’t trust innovators with their data. So how do we get them to start? The answer: the ability to demonstrate a commitment to ethics by design. \nIn the Ethics for Innovators workshop\, you’ll learn six key principles of digital data ethics. You’ll build a code of ethics that you can use to guide your current organization and to demonstrate commitment to corporate social responsibility. By integrating ethics awareness in the design and implementation of innovation\, you’ll be trained in principles of ethics design that can minimize potential consumer backlash and demonstrate to investors that you have properly analyzed ethics risks. \nUpon completion\, attendees will receive a certificate from Alberta Innovates and can display their certification on resumes\, CVs\, and websites.  \nAbout the instructor: \nThis workshop is lead by Dr. Peter Andes\, Senior Business Partner managing the Ethics of Innovation Consortium (EoIC) program. Prior to joining Alberta Innovates\, Dr. Andes served as the editor of the International Review of Information Ethics\, overseeing the publication of a special issue of case studies in artificial intelligence ethics (https://informationethics.ca/index.php/irie/issue/view/34)\, and taught healthcare ethics for six years at the University of Alberta. \nJoin us on January 16th\, 2025\, and don’t miss out on this free opportunity to earn your certificate in digital data ethics. \n

SUMMARY:The Productivity Crisis in Canada
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to host this conversation on the Productivity Crisis in Canada.  In March 2024\, the Bank of Canada’s senior deputy governor\, Carolyn Rogers\, sounded the alarm on the productivity crisis in Canada.  \n“Back in 1984\, the Canadian economy was producing 88% of the value generated by the US economy per hour. That’s not great. But by 2022\, Canadian productivity had fallen to just 71% of that of the United States. Over this same period of time\, Canada also fell behind our G7 peers\, with only Italy seeing a larger decline in productivity relative to the United States.” – Carolyn Rogers \nOur speakers are: \nJeff Adamson\, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Neo Financial \nJanak Alford\, Deputy Minister of Technology and Innovation at the Government of Alberta \nMichael Mahon\, CEO at Alberta Innovates \nRuhee Ismail-Teja\, VP of Policy and External Affairs at Calgary Chamber of Commerce \nThis event series happens every week at the Pioneer. Doors open at 4:30pm\, the panel starts at 5pm.

SUMMARY:Ag-Tech Days #3: AI in Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming agriculture by improving productivity\, sustainability\, and efficiency. Its applications include pest identification\, soil health monitoring\, and autonomous equipment optimizing resource use. AI-driven irrigation systems track soil moisture and weather forecasts to optimize water use\, saving water and boosting crop yields. Similarly\, AI precision feeding systems analyze animal needs to enhance nutrition\, reduce waste\, and improve efficiency. These advancements highlight AI’s role in promoting sustainable practices and resource efficiency in modern agriculture. \nAdopting new technologies\, especially AI\, presents challenges such as a shortage of skilled professionals\, high initial investments\, and concerns about data security\, privacy\, and ethics. The upcoming session will address these issues by featuring pioneers in the field.

SUMMARY:New technology for well remediation and decommissioning
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to attend an upcoming public webinar exploring emerging approaches to a critical issue in oil and gas operations: long-term wellbore sealing.   \nCement has long been the go-to material for sealing wellbores. But in complex situations—especially remediation and permanent plugging—its limitations are increasingly clear. With environmental risks and financial liabilities tied to leaking wells\, the demand for alternatives is on the rise.  \nJonathan Heseltine \nJoin our host Jonathan Heseltine from InnoTech Alberta as he explores promising new technologies that aim to improve sealing performance\, reduce emissions\, and enhance long-term well integrity.  \n  \n  \n  \nJoining Jonathan are the following experts:  \n\nOleg Ishkov – CEO\, Rockit \n\n\nCraig Brown – Owner\, Underground Vision Technologies \n\n\nLennox Leotaud – Technical Marketing Supervisor\, Well Armour Inc.  \n\nThis is a great opportunity to hear directly from innovators at the forefront of well sealing solutions and to learn how novel barrier technologies are being deployed in real-world applications.  \nIf you are a field operator\, regulator\, or a potential technology vendor working in this space\, InnoTech Alberta should be their first call for consultation and testing.
