The Methane Reduction program manages investments in technological innovation that will reduce Alberta’s methane emissions. The focus of the program balances investments in conversion technology for economic value addition and emission reduction solutions.
The goal of the Methane Reduction program is to support the Government of Alberta’s direction to reduce oil and gas methane emissions by 45 per cent by 2025 as outlined in the Alberta Climate Leadership Plan.
The objective of the program is to collaborate with end-users and technology developers to advance the innovation required to achieve the methane emissions reduction target in the most cost-effective way.
Technologies supported within the program include leak detection, monitoring and measurement of methane emissions, reducing or eliminating fugitive emissions, and converting methane to value-added products.
