Alberta Bio Future

Alberta Bio Future, Opportunities

Alberta Bio Future (ABF) and its sub-programs focus primarily on projects thatadd value to biomass in agriculture and forestry, and create new and improved bioindustrial products and bioindustrial technologies.

The Alberta Bio Future, Opportunities sub-program was launched in November 2017.

It is designed to leverage unique and/or exceptional opportunities (from research to product commercialization) that would be missed if a project were not considered for funding in a timely fashion. Therefore, the proposal must take advantage of an exceptional, time-sensitive opportunity and partnership that justify having the project considered.

Funding for approved full proposals will be established at a level appropriate for the project. Applicants are expected to contribute an appropriate portion of the total project costs, as per guiding principles in the program guidelines.

Information on biomass characterization developed in the projects will be made publicly available to advance the bioindustrial sector.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Researchers based in Alberta, and researchers elsewhere conducting bioindustrial projects with a benefit to Alberta.
  • Operating companies or industry groups based in Alberta.

Project work must be carried out primarily in Alberta, and completed by Dec. 31, 2020.

How to apply

This sub-program has a two-stage, online application process: Letter of Intent (LOI) and Full Proposal. Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2019.

Applicants will be contacted within six weeks upon receipt of their LOI. Those who are successful at the LOI stage will move to the second stage, and be invited to submit a Full Proposal.
