The Alberta – China International Technology Partnership Program is temporarily on hold because of the Coronavirus. As such, we will not be accepting Expression of Interest from Alberta SMEs and all matchmaking events will be on hold until further notice.
For your safety, Alberta Innovates is recommending clients avoid non-essential travel to China to limit the spread of the Coronavirus. Please refer to Global Affairs Canada for travel warnings and additional updates to China.
This program provides Alberta for-profit small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) support to access funding to develop strategic, industry-driven commercialization projects that involve novel and innovative projects with a partner in Zhejiang, China.
If approved, we provide the investment to the Alberta applicant, with the Alberta SME required to match the contribution in equal cash and in-kind resources for the project. The partnering jurisdiction is responsible for providing funding to the China applicant.
This collaborative program is intended to improve opportunities for projects in innovative technology development and commercialization activities between Alberta and Zhejiang in the priority areas of:
- Health care and pharmaceuticals
- Clean energy and environmental protection
- Digital economy
The goal of a matchmaking event is to help Alberta SMEs find a suitable partner to participate in the Alberta-China International Technology Partnership Program. Some travel support will be available to Alberta SMEs selected to attend the workshops.
Submit an expression of interest
To be eligible, Alberta SMEs must complete an expression of interest (EOI). EOIs are reviewed and used to conduct a preliminary assessment for a potential partner match. Companies will be contacted directly regarding upcoming matchmaking events.
Alberta Applicants must complete Alberta Innovates application, and the Zhejiang applicants must complete a two-step process with Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Exchanges Centre for Foreign Countries to apply. Submissions are reviewed by Alberta and Zhejiang Program Steering Committees and evaluated on merit through a competitive peer-review process.
