The health sector is a major contributor to well-being and economic prosperity. With an emphasis on advancing scientific knowledge and translating it into more effective treatments, services, and solutions, health sector performance is dependent on highly skilled people.
To enhance the recruitment, development and retention of the province’s next generation of research and innovation leaders, we have a portfolio of Training and Early Career Development programs.
SPOR Graduate Studentships
Jointly funded by Alberta Innovates and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit Graduate Studentship provides opportunities for individuals enrolled in a thesis-based Master’s or PhD program at an Alberta university to undertake patient-oriented health-related research.
Graduate Studentships in Health Innovation
Alberta Innovates’ Graduate Studentships combine research training stipends with mentorship and career development allowances to better position graduate students for high-impact careers in Alberta’s health research and innovation (R&I) ecosystem.
Postgraduate Fellowships in Health Innovation
Alberta Innovates’ Postgraduate Fellowships combine research training stipends with mentorship and career development allowances to better position post-graduates for high-impact careers in Alberta’s health research and innovation (R&I) ecosystem.
NOTE: MD-PhD Studentship/Clinician Fellowship
We are not offering the MD-PhD Studentship or Clinician Fellowship specific streams in 2019/2020.
We strongly encourage those of you who are pursuing research training in combination with, or after, a professional health degree to apply to the general programs listed above.
These competitions are highly competitive with 300+ submissions received each year. We anticipate funding up to 12 SPOR Graduate Studentships, 26 Graduate Studentships in Health Innovation, and 15 Postgraduate Fellowships in 2019 / 2020 (subject to budget approval).
