Creating Power Using Geothermal Sources
Alberta Innovates subsidiary C-FER Technologies is digging deep to discover new sources of power.
Geothermal energy is generally associated with the production of heat. Brandon Curkan, a research engineer with C-FER Technologies, wants to show that it can also be used to produce electricity. He’s working on the development of an enhanced geothermal system for power, which he maintains is more effective than traditional geothermal systems because they don’t need to be operated on a fault line — they can be operated anywhere. The expertise generated by this work has the potential to create a market for Alberta technology across the globe.
