Home > Unbound Videos > The Secret to Success: Building Consumer Trust
The session examines the use of data trusts as a solution for opening up access to data and enabling transparent oversight.
January 26, 2021
To build consumer trust in the digital economy, there is an urgent need to explore new models of data governance that open up access to data while enabling more transparent oversight and accountability. Data trusts, a form of collective data governance based on the common law trust, have been proposed as a possible way to pool disparate data sets for research and development or socially beneficial purposes, most notably in the context of smart cities or health research. This session introduces the concept of data trusts and examines whether they are capable of living up to such ambitious expectations. Originally aired January 26, 2021.
