Alberta Innovates is redesigning how it supports innovators across Alberta, and the work starts now.

Following a comprehensive program review and the launch of its new Strategic Plan, Alberta Innovates has a clear direction: a more connected, faster, and easier-to-navigate system that puts the innovator's path to commercialization at the centre of everything. And for it to be a more consistent and user-friendly experience for innovators.

As part of this evolution, Alberta Innovates will halt acceptance of new applications for six programs within the startup and SME-focused programs, effective May 29 at 4:00 p.m. MDT. These programs include:

  • Micro Voucher
  • Voucher
  • Alberta Digital Traction
  • Industry R&D Associates
  • Industry Commercialization Associates
  • Product Demonstration

This allows Alberta Innovates to responsibly manage demand, address a significant volume of applications already in the system, and ensure applicants are not investing time in programs that are actively being redesigned.

Alberta Innovates remains open for business.

Applications submitted before the May 29 deadline will continue to be reviewed, and all existing funding agreements remain in place. Intake is expected to continue in other areas, including One Health and Energy, Aerospace, Defence and Advanced Materials.

Alberta Innovates will roll out an evolved and updated suite of programs in Summer 2026. The redesigned programs will feature one entry point into Alberta Innovates' full range of supports, financial and non-financial, with advanced technology helping match each venture to the right combination of resources. Alberta Innovates' technical and market expertise will reach every client engagement. AI and advanced tools will be applied throughout to move faster, support better decisions, and improve the experience for innovators, all used responsibly.

Alberta Innovates is building this with the ecosystem, not just for it. If you have ideas on what innovation support should look like in Alberta, we want to hear from you. Contact us at smeprograms@albertainnovates.ca or follow for more updates at albertainnovates.ca.
