Created in 2002 as the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Machine Learning and supported by Alberta Innovates through partnered funding, the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute, a not-for-profit centre, is number three in the world in the field of core artificial intelligence and machine learning.
15 years ago it was recognized that the field of machine learning could play a key role in the economic diversification of Alberta’s economy. Amii is a member of the Pan-Canadian Strategy on Artificial Intelligence.
Making Alberta a hub for artificial intelligence and machine learning
Amii employs machine intelligence, to meet a number of real-world and theoretical challenges, advancing academic understanding across disciplines and solving real-world problems. Amii is mandated to build technical/scientific capacity in the area of machine learning and focusses on the translation of research outcomes into commercial outcomes across all economic sectors.
Amii’s principal investigators are world-leaders in several subfields of machine learning and artificial intelligence and work closely with the global scientific and business communities to find opportunities to collaborate on research that will push the bounds of academic knowledge.
Amii has a team of machine learning avisors that guide local businesses along the path to building their in-house artificial intelligence capabilities leading to transformational solutions to tough problems facing Alberta and the world.
