This project aims to identify and evaluate depleted natural gas reservoirs in Alberta that are well-suited for underground hydrogen storage—a critical component for enabling a stable hydrogen economy. The team will analyze public geological data, conduct simulations, and perform lab experiments to assess storage security, hydrogen movement, and leakage risks, helping address key challenges in long-term, seasonal hydrogen storage.
