This project aims to develop Canada’s first 0.5 kW hydrogen-fueled solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) CHP unit for commercial, residential, and municipal applications. It focuses on improving SOFC performance by reducing the power degradation rate to below 0.2% per 1,000 hours and increasing fuel efficiency to over 90%, using novel materials, optimized design, and AI-based control systems. If successful, it could significantly reduce emissions, create jobs, and support Alberta’s clean energy transition, with potential deployment in hydrogen communities, net-zero buildings, and blended-fuel systems.
