This project aims to advance Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer technology as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional PEM electrolysis, which relies on expensive and scarce platinum group metals (PGMs). By integrating 3D porous de-alloyed catalysts (3D-CAT) directly onto the gas diffusion layer, the project seeks to improve performance, durability, and scalability of AEM systems. In partnership with Cipher Neutron and the University of Alberta, the initiative supports Alberta’s Hydrogen Roadmap by enabling more affordable and environmentally friendly green hydrogen production.
