This study investigates novel methods to generate efficient carbon fibres that are comparable to pitch-based fibres. The production of carbon fibre has many challenges, including increased energy costs, time, and GHG generation. To address these issues, the asphaltene based melt spinning process is proposed with unique stabilization and carbonization methods including the use of Intensive pulsed light (IPL)/laser/microwave irradiations. Through the proposed strategy, the energy, process time, and GHG needed to produce carbon fibres are expected to decrease significantly.
