Recycling of Hard to Recycle PET clamshell materials into food grade packaging

Merlin will take ‘hard to recycle’ PET clamshell material and recycle it such that it can be used back into food grade packaging, thereby making its use ‘circular’. There is currently no known process that is commercially viable in the recycling industry to process this back into rPET that can be used in food grade applications at a high percentage insertion rate. For us to achieve a high insertion rate, we need to change our processes and equipment to allow us to remove the heavy glue material and remaining volatiles to reach the quality that our food packaging customers require.
