November 28, 2023
Dr. Susie Li, senior researcher at InnoTech Alberta, was nominated for her in-field crop disease surveillance technology.
Alberta Innovates congratulates our colleague Dr. Susie Li, senior researcher at InnoTech Alberta, on her nomination as a finalist for the ASTech Awards Agriculture/Agrifood Best in Sector innovation award.
Dr. Li developed an in-field crop disease surveillance technology for crop protection. This technology involves automation and cellular and IT technology for daily transmission of crop disease pathogen spore level to end users for timely disease control, which reduces yield loss for crop producers. This biosensor eliminates the unnecessary use of fungicides and, therefore, reduces the environmental footprint. Dr. Li received a US patent for this technology.
Susie’s ingenuity is an example of how InnoTech Alberta’s applied research expertise solves real world problems in important sectors of the economy. Dr. Li’s technology was developed with support from the Alberta Canola Producers Commission and the Alberta Crop Industry Development Fund, with the Canola Council of Canada and InnoTech Alberta.
