April 21, 2026
AI is getting its hands dirty with applications in advanced safety and operational tools for mining and heavy construction.
A construction site might be the last place you’d expect to see artificial intelligence, but AI is getting its hands dirty with applications in advanced safety and operational tools for mining and heavy construction.
Siamak Akhlaghi, Chief Executive Officer at Correct-AI.
Correct-AI is an Edmonton-based industrial AI company dedicated to transforming high-risk, industrial worksites into safer, more efficient environments. The company was created after observing frequent near-miss incidents involving heavy machinery and workers, due to blinds spots, limited visibility and outdated safety protocols.
Their mission: “Develop trusted, practical and intelligent systems that can detect proximity, recognize risks and support decisions being made on the worksite to optimize worker confidence and safety.”
Correct-AI is leveraging expertise in robotics, computer vision and artificial intelligence to reduce harm on industrial sites and put Alberta workers' lives first.
For example, Correct-AI's PROX-EYE camera technology continuously scans its surroundings for people, vehicles and obstacles to deliver instant alerts that help prevent accidents (Correct-AI). Currently, there are 2,300 PROX-EYE cameras active on industrial sites collecting over 6 million hours of exposure footage, boasting zero human-error incidences and no worksite collisions during exposure hours (Correct-AI).
Their partnership with Alberta Innovates led to early-stage funding, unlocking nearly $1M in follow-up private and federal investment, and the commercialization of three AI workplace safety products that are now protecting workers around the world.
After a few years, Correct-AI has grown from two people to a 35-person team. They are currently distributing this technology across 22 countries, including Canada and the United States, with the support of major dealer networks like Vela Industries Group. Correct-AI has achieved 200% year-over-year growth and turned Edmonton into a global hub for industrial safety AI.
When it comes to safety on industrial worksites, it’s clear that AI not only has a place, but doesn’t mind the heavy lifting. Correct-AI's safety technology shows that artificial intelligence can do more than optimize processes and put Alberta on the map—it can save lives.
