The project aims to address the increasing demand for sustainable insulation alternatives in the Canadian building material market by developing solid foams entirely derived from biobased feedstocks.
The project aims to address the increasing demand for sustainable insulation alternatives in the Canadian building material market by developing solid foams entirely derived from biobased feedstocks. Our foaming technology is straightforward and scalable, allowing it for the large-scale production of thermal insulators. Lignocellulosic biomass feedstocks are abundant in both Alberta and British Columbia and will be utilized to produce cellulose fibres that will be transformed into functionalized foams. Various biomass-derived additives will be tested and incorporated into the process of foam manufacturing to enhance the foam’s properties to comply with building standards.
