Vice President, Provincial Platforms & SPOR

Tim Murphy works with partner organizations to create a conducive environment to enable research and innovation in the province. Platforms enable research to happen more efficiently and effectively along the continuum from initial idea generation to final product or impact.

Tim has more than 20 years of senior executive leadership experience in the health care sector. He is a determined, solutions-focused leader who was the inaugural Senior Vice President at the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research in Vancouver, and led, among other things, the team that implemented the Foundation’s successful Technology/Methodology Platform initiatives.

Tim has been a senior leader at comprehensive cancer centres, such as the Princess Margaret Hospital and the British Columbia Cancer Agency. Prior to coming on board with Alberta Innovates, Tim was a business consultant with clients including the CHILD Foundation, the Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability, and the Movember Foundation.

Tim has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Life Sciences from Queen’s University; a Master of Health Administration from the University of Toronto; and, a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University. He is also a designated Certified Professional Accountant.

Tim is a father of two. He played Junior B hockey in Belleville, Ontario and Varsity hockey while at Queen’s. He still finds time to play two games a week in a local men’s league.
