February 5, 2024
The delegation brings Alberta innovators to the attention of global investors.
EDMONTON, ALBERTA, February 5, 2024 – Alberta Innovates and its Scaleup Growth and Accelerator Program (Scaleup GAP) are announcing the SXSW 2024 Delegation, March 6-11. Joining Alberta Innovates at SXSW are 50 high-potential companies looking to make connections, attract potential investors and take in valuable learning opportunities at one of the world’s largest tech conferences.
Delegates will participate in curated one-on-one meetings, attend invite-only networking events, and participate in workshops and events, all made possible by the support of Alberta Innovates’ Scaleup GAP program as part of the ongoing effort to grow companies, create jobs and foster innovation with roots here in Alberta.
This delegation builds off a successful trip in 2023 where the results spoke for themselves: with over $6 million in finalized business deals to date, paired with over 2,600 reported connections made by attending companies, this initiative brought the province’s tech ecosystem to the international market and delivered remarkable impacts for companies, for founders, and for Alberta.
With strong ties to Alberta Innovates’ priority areas including digital health, clean resource tech and artificial intelligence, this year’s SXSW delegation will bring Alberta innovators to the attention of global investors and reflect some of the best our entrepreneurial ecosystem has to offer.
About ScaleupGAP
The Alberta Scaleup and Growth Accelerator Program (Scaleup GAP) is run by a consortium led by Alberta Innovates. The consortium also includes the Government of Alberta, Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan), The City of Edmonton, through Edmonton Unlimited, and the City of Calgary’s Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund, who allocated $35 million over three years to retain business accelerators. It’s part of the Alberta government’s goal to help create 20,000 jobs and increase technology firm revenue to $5 billion by 2030.
Scaleup GAP provides end-to-end business support services for growth-oriented companies just starting out who are fleshing out their business plans all the way to organizations who need advice or investment to help them grow globally. Five accelerators were brought to Alberta in 2021/2022 to bridge the scaleup gap, including Alberta Accelerator by 500, Plug and Play Alberta, Telus Community Safety and Wellness Accelerator powered by Alchemist, Thrive Canada Accelerator and Alberta Catalyzer, an early-stage pre-accelerator.
