Alberta Innovates and SHEInnovates join forces to spotlight women leading recovery and rebuilding during the COVID-19 pandemic

CALGARY, AB - Alberta Innovates, in conjunction with SHEInnovates, puts women front and centre of the pandemic recovery in an Unbound live stream event Sept. 15, 2020. Designed for female leaders and entrepreneurs the event showcases women who are emerging strong by changing the innovation game in Alberta and around the world.

Women Leading Innovation offers discussions with global expert panelists from IBM and Facebook's Arielle Gross Samuels to local Alberta businesses such as Elevate Aviation, and Shelley Kuipers from The51, all followed by live Q&A from the audience.

Women make up 51% of the Canadian population yet receive just 4% of the capital funding, despite performing 63% better than their male counterparts. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted women entrepreneurs heightening the importance of supporting women in innovation and technology to generate overall economic success.

"Supporting an ecosystem of women innovators, investors and entrepreneurs in Alberta and across Canada is critical if we want our economy to get back on track quicker," says Jennifer Koury, Calgary business leader and co-founder of SHEInnovatesAlberta. "Alberta has realized much success with women in innovation and technology to date, but we know we can't take our foot off the pedal during these times. By connecting and sharing insights we strengthen our communities."

Registration is now available and will remain open until September 15, 2020. Tickets to the live stream event are $49 and include upcoming Unbound webcasts as well as a library of previous Unbound content.

SHEInnovatesAlberta is the first Canadian chapter piloted by the UN Women's Global Innovation Coalition for Change. SHEInnovatesAlberta celebrates and inspires women innovators and entrepreneurs who are solving complex challenges in Alberta.

Inventures is a production of live and Unbound virtual experiences featuring keynotes, panels and expert insight on important innovation developments in Alberta and globally. Alberta Innovates, a provincial corporation, launched Inventures in 2018 to bring together and showcase the province's innovation community and to create the conditions for deal flow.
