About this event

Spring 2024 Patient Engagement in Patient-Oriented Research Certificate

Engaging patients as research partners is fundamental to patient-oriented research. The Patient Engagement in Patient-Oriented Research Certificate course introduces key concepts, methods, and strategies for engaging patients as partners. As research team members, patient partners help to shape research questions, actively collaborate on health research studies, contribute to knowledge translation, and more. Course content was developed collaboratively by experts in patient-oriented research (POR) and patient engagement, including patient partners.

This certificate is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for 23 hours.

Course Learning Objectives

  • Meaningfully engage patients as partners throughout their research initiative;
  • Apply the practices of reflexivity and evaluation in research;
  • Collaborate in POR that addresses health priorities that patients have identified; and
  • Undertake research that aims to improve health outcomes for patients.

By the end of this course, you will have created a patient engagement plan for a research project or research project idea that you bring with you to work on through this course.

This certificate course is part of the AbSPORU Leadership in Patient-Oriented Research Microcredential.

This course requires the completion of AbSPORU’s Introduction to Patient Engagement in Patient-Oriented Research Module.
